New TLDs Causing Controversy-ICANN Faces Congress
As Buy Domains predicted, the seven new TLDs that were approved last November still remain months away from being available. In fact, as the TLD controversy continues, Congress may put pressure on the Department of Commerce to stop implementation all together. The Department of Commerce is scheduled to review ICANN's selection process today (Feb.8), at 10am. The hearing, called, 'Is ICANN's New Generation of Internet Domain Name Selection Process Thwarting Competition?' will be webcasted on Real Player.

Nicole Kidman and the Williams Sisters Battle & Win Their Names
A Dublin, Ireland woman emailed the tennis stars, Venus and Serena Williams, asking more than $1 million for the domain names VenusAndSerenaWillimas.com (-.net and -.org). Nicole Kidman domain disputes involved the names NicholeKidman.com and NicoleKidmanNude.com. Previous decisions have proved that celebrities do not need a trademark to protect their names, however Venus and Serena had their names trademarked prior to their names being registered. By being in movies including "To Die For" and "Batman Forever", Kidman, who had not trademarked her name, receives the same kind of common law trademark.

Fish4 Settles With Goldcare Direct Out of Court
Fish4, an online car, home, and jobs directory settled out of court with Goldcare Direct regarding 22 domain names. Goldcare Direct transferred ownership of all 22 names, including Fish4Flights.co.uk, Fish4Fashion.co.uk, and Fish4Shopping.co.uk, without any payment to Fish4.
