100,000 Domain Names in Chile
Chile has reached 100,000 ".cl" domain names registered at the local top-level domain registrar, which is managed by NIC.cl. This number stands Chile as the third country in Latin America in number of domain names registered, after Argentina and Brazil. Also with this number, Chile shows 6.5 domain names for every 100,000 inhabitants; that's almost double Brazil, which has just 3.3. An important issue with this number is that, increasingly, Chilean companies (including media) have registered both ".cl" and ".com" domains for their websites...Read more.

VeriSign in Fight with Net Regulator
VeriSign, which runs the master directories for ``.com'' and ``.net'' addresses, is locked in a legal battle with the group that oversees the Internet addressing system (ICANN). It's a court fight that could bring changes to how a core part of the Internet is regulated, legal experts said. VeriSign sued ICANN in federal court in Los Angeles in February, claiming ICANN has overstepped its authority in trying to regulate the Mountain View company's attempts to roll out new services, such as VeriSign's Site Finder. ICANN to Claim VeriSign Suit Violates Free-Speech Law
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will file a motion Monday to block an antitrust lawsuit filed by VeriSign Inc., contending that it violates a California law barring suits aimed at chilling public debate and free speech. The "anti-SLAPP" law, enacted in 1992 by the California Legislature, seeks to thwart "strategic lawsuits against public participation" (SLAPP).
