WorldTradeCenter.com Dedicated as a Memorial
The owners of the domain name, WorldTradeCenter.com have recently removed the name from an auction site and have set it up as an online memorial for victims and survivors of the recent terrorist attacks in New York City. The site currently offers general rescue and volunteer information and links to other memorial sites, such as the New York Firefighters memorial fund and the Red Cross. The WorldTradeCenter.com site plans to expand and the owners are asking for any pictures or stories to add as the site grows.

.com is Still King
Over past several months, ICANN and the domain industry have been cluttered with the latest news on new TLDs. .biz and .info are finalizing the pre-registration process and getting ready to launch live registrations and the latest planned schedules for the .coop, .museum, and .aero are on deck. Many would think the .com industry would get washed away with the new TLD announcements. However, this is clearly not the case. In fact, recent studies and polls are proving that the demand for .com domain names continues to stand strong and is unaffected by the recent TLD offerings.
Most individuals, companies, and groups are passing on the opportunity to acquire additional, non-.com suffixes for their existing domain. Of the 252 suffixes available, the .com stands alone, becoming almost synonymous with the Internet and giving .com domain owners an instant competitive advantage over other online companies. Despite the recent economic downfall, the secondary market, which is where all the good .coms live, is still thriving. The only adjustment that has just now reached the secondary marketplace is changes in the prices of secondary market names. The top .com domain names that were once thought to sell for $100,000 to $150,000 are usually selling for $10,000 to $50,000 instead. This is consistent with Buy Domains brokerage pricing for even the best names, since the very beginning.

ICANN UPDATE
What About .org?
ICANN announced at the recent Montevideo meetings that the use of the .org TLD would not be restricted to non-profit organizations. Although it is currently known as and primarily being used by non-profit organizations and associations, ICANN has recognized the need to keep this TLD unrestricted in response to fewer available .com domains.

.name Plans to Go Live
If all goes as planned, final contract agreements will be approved by ICANN and the .name TLD will go live shortly following the .biz and info TLDs. Global Name Registry, a London company will be managing the .name TLD and it is designed for personal and family sites. Unlike the traditional TLD format, .name will consist of two names separated by a period. For example, John Doe will look like: john.doe.name. ICANN expects .name to go live on Dec. 13 of this year.
