A Key Weapon to Thwart Cybercrime
Highly publicized FBI busts are nice. What consumers really need, though, is timely information they can use to protect themselves. On Nov. 20 the FBI announced a massive Internet crime bust. Dubbed Operation Cyber Sweep, the investigation netted 125 arrests and indictments over the course of seven weeks. The FBI says those arrested, indicted, and convicted are responsible for $100 million worth of crimes affecting 125,000 Americans and dozens of businesses. Read more.

GoDaddy Sorry for Anonymity Snafu
Domain registrar GoDaddy Inc. says that it's "learned a lesson" after an internal mistake removed a trade website from the web for a month. The Webcaster Alliance, which represents Internet broadcasters, lost its website a month ago - the last thing it needed as it was preparing an antitrust action against the mighty Recording Industry Association of America, the RIAA. ICANN UPDATE
ICANN Looking to Change Operation of TLD Registries
The ICANN and Internet communities have expressed a strong interest in potential changes to how the TLD registries operate. In recognition of these concerns, Paul Twomey, President and CEO of ICANN, requested of Bruce Tonkin, Chair of the GNSO, that the GNSO initiate a Policy Development Process (PDP) designed to produce recommendations to the ICANN Board. Because of TLD registries architecture or operation, these changes could affect the operational stability, reliability, security or global interoperability of the DNS, that registry, or the Internet. ICANN Wins a Round in Wait List Case
The overseer of the Internet's domain names gained a legal victory this week in a case challenging its approval of a Web address back-order service (WLS) being created by VeriSign Inc. A federal judge earlier this week denied a preliminary injunction against ICANN. ICANN has given preliminary approval to VeriSign's plans to launch WLS. Read more
